The literary works of Raymond Carver revived the North American short story in the 1980s. The author's minimal writing style captured the mundane lives of his characters and evokes profound imagery. In this open studio each studio chooses a short story from Carver's book Cathedral and transforms it into a graphic narrative that explores the limits of comics and experiments with storytelling techniques. Students learn about the building blocks of comics: storyboard, decoupage, character design, story rhythm, color, viewpoints and typography. The graphic narrative is eventually self-published.

Eva Cardon is based in Flanders, where she teaches. She is currently completing a PhD that explores the autobiographical history of the comic-book. Eva works under the pseudonym Ephameron and her works are published and exhibited internationally.
